I would like to officially introduce myself, my name is Dionne Davidson, and I am the Director of
Marketing here at Houston and Sugarland Academy of Cannabis Science. We provide exceptional
educational courses on the benefits of Medical Cannabis for Doctors, Lawyers, Entrepreneurs, and
professionals striving to enter this lucrative industry.

I will be posting a blog weekly to keep all my loyal followers updated on the current laws, propositions, social economic, and political stances in the state of Texas. That brings us to this week’s discussion topic: Cannabis Law Reform. More than ever public opinion of Marijuana is shifting dramatically, leaving not even Texas as an exception. Texas Marijuana possession laws currently send consumers to jail for possession of 2 ounces or less which is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $2,000. That’s just the minimum, punishment for possession of between 50 pounds and 2,000 lbs. of marijuana is a Second-Degree felony! This is punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 2 years imprisonment, a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment, and a fine not to exceed $10,000. All this for something that has been proven to help treat ailments such as Epilepsy, PTSD, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, Severe Nausea, Cancer, and much more.

However, Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy is fighting to end these barbaric and arbitrary
punishments. In fact, their mission is to promote honest, fact-based dialogue regarding marijuana use and the negative effects of its criminalization, remove penalties for adults’ possession of marijuana for personal use, allow seriously and terminally ill patients to safely obtain and use medical marijuana if their doctors recommend it, and finally to open a safe, legal market where Texans who choose to consume marijuana can obtain it from safe, regulated businesses.

Texas Marijuana Policy

Coming to Austin on August 10, 2018 at the Sheraton Austin located in the Capitol at 701 E 11th St
Austin, TX 78701 Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy will be uniting law makers, medical
professionals, law enforcement officials, lawyers, advocates, and industry professionals in one building where they will hear from legislators, political operatives, attorneys, health-care professionals, celebrities, veterans, patients, and other advocates.
It looks like we may finally see light at the end of the tunnel thanks to the works of Texans for
Responsible Marijuana Policy and to supporters and advocates like ourselves. I hope you found this information useful and can leave this post with a little more faith in our laws than before. Until next week!
